The 3rd generation owner, Hori Tatsuaki leads the energetic team of workers. Initially a kimono producer, their strength is in its skill with luxury weaves, such as thick double-layered matelassé, often with metallic yarn.It is amazing to see the most challenging type of woven textiles are being born here daily. For example, matelassé made of metallic or flat yarns, with the elastic warp to give a three-dimensional effect. Another example is a fabric woven with the sequinned and unevenly spun yarns. They also created a fabric made of 40 percent of paper yarn. Their exclusive method made able to weave perfectly flat yarn without twisting. Along with fashion fabrics, their stage costume/material lines have attracted much attention internationally. Starting from the kimono, Horitatsu has been inspiring for all other weavers through it’s way of converting the tradition into the contemporary.

A matelasse woven with flat metallic yarns. The elastic wept is used to bring three-dimensional effect. The black metallic yarn in the photo image, “sabi-lamé”, gives a subtle shine to the fabric.
A dobby fabric woven into pintucks, saving tucking process. The maker’s exclusive method enabled the challenging task of keeping the even width of tucks.
A dobby with the elastic warp. The natural touch is brought by the Japanese paper yarn, and the subtle glow by the acetate. This fabric has both functionality and a sense of quiet luxury.
The rayon warps bring softness and comfortable touch. Twice fabric dyed, first in the light tone, then in the darker tone by “kago zome” kimono dyeing technique. The partly used mottled metallic yarns sparkle elegantly.
Dyed by “kago zome” kimono method, that is increasingly rarer to see. Two colours, the weaving pattern, and the white from the base textile conjurers the sophistication. The distinctive deep tone is achieved by the expert’s hand.
The sequinned yarns and the uneven yarns are woven into a fabric by the exclusive method. The metallic shine and the unevenness create a unique texture.
The complex emblem patterned matelasse with the metallic yarns. The colour changes from each angle as the metallic yarns reflect the light. It’s sparkle, quality, and metallic beauty complement each other.
The exclusive technique enabled the flat metallic yarns woven without twisting. The shadow accentuates the pattern, and creates a sense of luxury.
